The Wessex Estate and the Rail Corridor near Hudson Place Residences

Across Portsdown Road from Hudson Place Residences, the Wessex Estate keeps a slower pace than the offices of one-north, and beyond it runs the Rail Corridor. This guide describes the heritage estate, the green corridor and the parks around them, using the developer’s brochure and the distances on OneMap.

The Wessex Estate and Hudson Place Residences

The Wessex Estate is a neighbourhood of low colonial-era houses set among large trees, many of them in the black-and-white style, on roads such as Woking Road and Whitchurch Road. The brochure describes the estate next door as bringing a creative spirit through artist studios, exhibitions and heritage architecture, and gives about three minutes by bicycle to it. Colbar, the café at 9A Whitchurch Road, is about 150 metres from the site in a straight line on OneMap.

The architect’s brief lists the Wessex Estate as one of the two inspirations of the design, with the future of one-north, and both towers have open views towards its low roofs.

The Rail Corridor near Hudson Place Residences

The Rail Corridor follows the line of the former railway that once crossed Singapore from north to south, and it is now a continuous green path for walking and cycling. The brochure gives about seven minutes’ walk from the development to the southern stretch of the corridor through the Wessex access, and describes it as a green spine for outdoor activity and community life.

The brochure also marks the Queensway Node, a sheltered community space planned at the Rail Corridor for 2027, about seven minutes’ walk away, and describes the Buona Vista area as the first community node along the southern stretch of the corridor.
